    Committees

    ChemStewards® Strategic Direction Committee

    The ChemStewards® Strategic Direction Committee (CSSDC) mission is to raise the external awareness and visibility level of ChemStewards® with relevant external stakeholders throughout the greater chemical industry. The CSSD group provides leadership in the following areas:

    1) Raising awareness and acceptance of ChemStewards® throughout the industry

    2) Promoting alliances with government agencies

    3) Defining the ChemStewards® value proposition for potential members

    4) Managing the ChemStewards® brand

    Performance Improvement Committee

    The Performance Improvement Committee (PIC) leads the association’s implementation of the industry’s voluntary initiative on environmental, health and safety performance. The PIC is responsible for providing member companies with the tools and assistance necessary to implement ChemStewards® and oversees the technical assistance to provide member companies help with implementing the program.

    Government Relations Steering Committee

    The Government Relations Committee is focused on strengthening SOCMA’s overall advocacy efforts on behalf of the specialty chemical industry by evaluating strategic policy priorities and making recommendations to the Board of Governors on policy positions.

    The Environment Health and Safety Committee

    The Environment, Health & Safety Committee focuses on a wide range of issues, including chemical risk management, hazardous waste regulation, facility site security, process safety, employee health and safety, and facility water and air regulations.

    International Trade Committee

    The International Trade Committee currently focuses on a wide range of issues, including tariff-relief legislation, NAFTA modernization, MTB and GSP renewal, and reduction of foreign trade barriers in markets such as India, China, Korea, Canada and the European Union.

    Legal & Compliance Committee

    The Legal & Compliance Committee focuses on environmental and labor law, antitrust compliance, class actions, product liability, customs law and export licensing compliance, and anti-bribery and anti-corruption risk assessment.

    Value Chain Committee

    The Value Chain Committee focuses on ingredient disclosure and labeling regulations, retailer chemical policies, green chemistry and sustainability, product and chemical-specific regulations, and major state-level chemical issues.

    Peer groups

    ChemSectors Network

    The ChemSectors network provides customized information for different operating verticals. The network serves to help members accomplish their business objectives, provide customized industry intelligence, identify stewardship and sustainability best practices for the industry and members.

    ChemStewards® Network

    Members of the ChemStewards® Network individuals who would like to receive information such as ChemStewards® updates, best practices, feedback, as well as education and networking opportunities.

    Emerging Leaders

    Through its Emerging Leaders Network Peer Group, SOCMA is dedicated to making sure our members have not only the resources for today – but for the next generation. SOCMA provides an outlet for professionals moving into management roles to build their network and connect on top-of-mind issues impacting industry and supply chain. The group aims to facilitate comprehensive leadership discussions and educational opportunities throughout the year both remotely and in conjunction with SOCMA regional and national events.

    Women in Specialties

    SOCMA embraces the evolution of the specialty chemicals industry, with women leading the way. Our collaborative network of women within the specialty and fine chemicals sector represent manufacturers, distributors and service providers to the industry. This group serves to encourage community and bring together this strong network of women across the industry, making connections, fostering curiosity and creating value. The group meets throughout the year via teleconferences and at in-person meetings.
