SOCMA Requests White House Meeting to Advance American Specialty Chemical Manufacturing
April 30, 2025The Honorable Donald J. Trump
President of the United States
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
Dear President Trump,
On behalf of the Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA), I respectfully request a meeting with your team to share how our members are accelerating reshoring and advancing American manufacturing.
SOCMA represents 140 specialty chemical companies across the U.S.—80% of them small businesses, deeply rooted in their communities. These companies don’t need permits or construction—they have 10–30% open capacity right now and are already reshoring projects.
Specialty chemical manufacturers transform basic building blocks—often sourced globally—into high-value materials made here in America—semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, military systems, crop protection, and more. These are high-performance, application-specific chemistries that bring precision, reliability, and functionality to complex products across critical sectors.
America has a strategic advantage in innovation-driven manufacturing. There’s a powerful opportunity to focus where the impact is greatest—at the intersection of innovation, specialized capabilities, and economic security—by strengthening advanced domestic production rather than duplicating less strategic inputs. We rely on petrochemicals as critical feedstocks, and we support your focus on expanding domestic energy production—it directly fuels American innovation.
SOCMA’s goal is to position the U.S. as the leader in specialty chemical manufacturing. That vision is fully aligned with your priorities: rebuilding American industry, securing supply chains, and boosting economic resilience.
Our message is simple: SOCMA’s companies are already reshoring through U.S.-based contract manufacturing. They have capacity, capability, and a track record of delivering specialized solutions quickly and reliably. We would welcome the opportunity to walk your team through what’s possible.
Respectfully,
Jennifer Abril
President & CEO
