ARLINGTON, VA – The Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA) presented Maria Kraemer Gutierrez, Plant Manager, Monument Chemical – Houston, with the association’s first Emerging Leaders Award during SOCMA Week in a packed room of colleagues and peers in New Orleans on December 5.

Maria was nominated by her team at Monument Chemical for her role in leading the largest custom chemical manufacturing plant in North America.

“It is our pleasure to present Maria with the inaugural Emerging Leaders Award,” said President & CEO Jennifer Abril, “Her commitment to safety and proven safety record while driving growth at her facility stood out to the judges.  In addition, the judges felt her international background and quick ascent in operations roles spoke to her ability to adapt and master the future that lies ahead for our industry.”

Under Maria’s guidance and leadership, her team at Monument Chemical has successfully invested in multiple capacity and capability expansions – with the latest aiming at a 35% increase in overall capacity. The Houston facility recently passed the four-year mark for being OSHA Recordable free.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by SOCMA, especially because this a win for my site team as well,” said Maria. “We all bring a diversity of thought, expertise, and creativity to the table – and that’s a big part of how we win – but the foundation of our success is our shared commitments to our customers, to each other, and to the communities in which we operate. We do the right thing, and it shows – not only in our big wins and milestones, but also in our day-to-day actions that allow us to work together efficiently, collaboratively, and safely.”
